"A soft footprint". With ten towers, the treetop walk is designed to have minimal impact on the environment, “many will get to enjoy the forest but none will touch the ground. The 500 metre long structure is built on existing forest tracks that follow the edge of the Illawarra Escarpment. Prefabricated in Tasmania and shipped over in 8 metre lengths, assembled on-site each span is 40 metres long.
"Knights Tower" is ascended via a spiral staircase taking the guest to an exhilarating 45 metres above the forest floor. The lookout platform at the top provides unparalleled views over the valley to Lake Illawarra and beyond to the South Pacific Ocean.
"Go to the edge!" The 2 springboard cantilevers, each at 24 metres long, sway gently above the canopy, giving you the sensation of being at the edge of the escarpment, whilst offering spectacular views and a challenge to the thrillseeker.
The Illawarra Fly is the only treetop walk of its kind in the world with 2 cantilevered sections. The treetop walk is able to withstand 280 km/hr winds. The average height is over 25 metres, with the highest point being 45 metres at the viewing platform atop Knights Towerâ€. Capable of holding 400kg/m2 the maximum weight on the cantilever is 28 tonnes or 800 wombats!!
