Mosses and lichens may be a mini world often overlooked, even walked over, but the rest of the forest depends on them for survival.

They play a major part in the rainforest and are useful to us as well.  In the rainforest, mosses hold the soil together and keep in moisture.  A moss plant is made up of leaves on a stem. While there are many cells in a moss leaf, in most cases the cells are in one layer so that the leaf is only one cell thick.
